sPECIAL EXHIBITIONS

We have two special exhibitions at the Model Village in Bourton on the Water; The Miniature Landscape Exhibition, which comprises of seven miniature historic English cottages created by John Constable and The Exhibition of Miniatures, which includes highly detailed miniature scenes and room sets.

THE MINIATURE LANDSCAPE EXHIBITION

In 2014, Bourton-on-the-Water Model Village became the home of seven wonderfully detailed historic English cottages created by miniature specialist John Constable, from Langport in Somerset.

Constable made specialist tools to craft the thousands of miniature bricks and stones, tiny rafters and intricate windows and doors. He employed traditional methods and materials to build the cottages in precise proportion and each one took a painstaking 12 months to complete. They are on display in the Model Village in landscaped miniature gardens, created using tips and tricks from Constable's own books on the subject.

The collection includes a perfect replica of Willy Lott’s Cottage, which is depicted in the famous painting, The Hay Wain, by the craftsman’s namesake, the ‘other’ John Constable.

EXHIBITION OF MINIATURES

This intricately detailed display of miniature scenes and room sets is the work of over 100 talented English craftsmen and women. Depicting the minutiae of traditional English life, from market trading to days spent in the classroom, it even incorporates several moving miniatures.

This exhibition is under cover and can only be accessed from within the Model Village. Entry is just £1 extra.
