Things To Do This Spring In The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is varied and wonderful to visit any time of year (in our opinion), but it does seem to come alive during Spring with the school holidays, flowers blossoming and weather starting to get better. If you’re planning a Spring time visit to this area, we have put together some wonderful things to do, whether it’s a romantic getaway, family trip, or gathering of friends. There’s plenty to do for everyone!
1. Lambing at Cotswold Farm Park
Until the 27th April, you can experience the wonder of new life at Cotswold Farm Park, which is just a 10 minute drive from Bourton-on-the-Water. Witness newborn lambs taking their first steps and hear the experts share all of their knowledge daily. You can buy tickets for the live lambing on the farm through their website
2. Giffords Circus at Sudeley Castle
This year, celebrating their 25th anniversary, Giffords Circus has a ‘dazzling mix of new faces and old favourites’ that will certainly put on a spectacular show this May, at the amazing Sudeley Castle. The new show, Laguna Bay, will be on at the castle from 9th to 19th May and is set to be something quite special this Spring. You can book tickets through their website
3. Easter Code Hacking at The Model Village
Every year, the Model Village in Bourton-on-the-Water hosts a fun code cracking egg hunt for kids over Easter weekend. Grab an activity sheet from the entrance kiosk and set off keeping eyes peeled for letters throughout the village. Once you’ve got them all, unscramble the word and win a prize! A wonderful activity to fit into a day whilst visiting the heart of The Cotswolds. Perhaps you’re thinking of heading to The Old New Inn for our famous Sunday lunch? If so, why not pop in to the Model Village before or after for some extra entertainment.
4. Cheltenham Jazz Festival
If you’re into your music, the Cheltenham Jazz Festival is definitely something worth checking out this Spring. With a huge lineup of artists over a range of venues, there really is something for everyone. Tom Walker, Lulu, Lisa Stansfield and Macy Gray, to name just a few of the acts! Running from 30th April until 5th May, gives plenty of opportunity to make sure you get tickets to one or more of these gigs. You can see the full lineup on their website
5. Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill
Looking for something a bit different to do? The annual Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling takes place on Monday 26th from Midday. Location in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, where competitors chase a Double Gloucester cheese wheel down a steep hill, with the first to the bottom winning. A tradition dating back quite some years, it’s certainly an activity for adults only and those that don’t mind a few bumps and bruises if taking part! Spectating is, of course, a much safer option.
6. Mooching Around
When it comes to The Cotswolds, you’re certainly not shy of ‘moochable’ spots! If you love wandering around a beautiful town or village, taking in the history, visiting independent shops, coffee shops and eating great food, then you’re in the right area. Bourton, Burford, Stow, Broadway, Moreton and Chipping Campden…to name but a few! Especially in the Spring time when the sun is shining, an afternoon of mooching is a must.
With plenty to do this Spring, we’re sure you’ll have a great time no matter what! If you do visit us, be sure to tag The Old New Inn or The Model Village in your photos.
